While companies may be able to held accountable, the larger need is for proper education—from a young age—around the dangers of screen addiction, media influence, emotional manipulation, and grooming whether it’s from humans or even AI characters. Like other sensitive topics, schools will lag on including this in curriculum in any concerted way. The lawsuit claims that Sewell was “groomed” by a chatbot impersonating a “Game of Thrones” character, which encouraged him to take his own life.

Founded by former Google engineers Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas Adiwardana, the platform has over 20 million users.
