iPhone 16: A18 Chip, Boosted Performance, Improved Camera, Enhanced Privacy

It’ll be fun to see the AI haters begin to LOVE all the AI features on their new iPhones. Jokes aside, with an estimated 1.5B (yes BILLION) iPhone users, Apple’s power moves into the world of Gen AI are going to take the technology mainstream. While some features have been delayed—as seems to be the norm for AI products lately—it will still be launching with some impressive abilities. Exciting stuff!

Apple has just announced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, both featuring the new A18 chip and built for what Apple calls “Apple Intelligence.” This personal intelligence system aims to deliver helpful and relevant information while keeping user privacy intact. The new models come with Camera Control, an Action button, a 48MP Fusion camera, and improved battery life. Pre-orders start on September 13, with availability beginning September 20.

Technological Advancements

The A18 chip is a significant upgrade, offering a 30% faster CPU and a 40% faster GPU compared to the A16 Bionic chip. This chip also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing for better gaming performance. The Camera Control feature integrates hardware and software to allow quick access to the camera and various settings. Additionally, Apple Intelligence offers systemwide Writing Tools, enhanced Siri capabilities, and Priority Notifications.
